Israel to mount aggressive emergency international PR effort in wake of Gaza campaign

Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on Saturday instructed the Foreign Ministry to take emergency measures to adapt Israel's international public relations to the ongoing escalation in the Gaza Strip. Livni instructed senior ministry officials to open an aggressive and diplomatic international public relations campaign, in order to gain greater international support for Israel Defense Forces operations in the Gaza Strip....Livni instructed ministry officials currently on vacation in Israel to return immediately to their posts abroad, and to immediately mount public relations campaigns in their station countries, focusing on local media and public officials. In addition, Israeli officials stationed abroad have been put on high alert. Livni will hold a series of talks with foreign officials in the coming days, in which she will attempt to explain the rationale for the expanded IDF operations in the Gaza Strip. The Foreign Ministry is also looking to recruit speakers of foreign languages, in particular Arabic, Italian, Spanish, and German, in order to expand Israel's public relations campaign with the representatives of foreign media outlets currently in Israel.
An international media broadcast outlet will be opened in Sderot on Sunday, and the Foreign Ministry will organize a series of tours of Sderot and the Gaza envelope communities for foreign media and diplomatic figures. Speaking in English at a press conference Saturday, Livni said Israel "expects the support and understanding of the international community, as it confronts terror, and advances the interest of all those who wish the forces of peace and co existence to determine the agenda of this region."

The ANSWER Coalition, Muslim American Society Freedom, Free Palestine Alliance, National Council of Arab Americans, and Al-Awda, International Palestine Right to Return Coalition are calling for Tuesday, December 30 to be a National Day of Action to show solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and to demand an immediate end to the murderous attacks carried out by the Israeli military against the people of Gaza.

Hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza have been massacred and wounded today as Israel has launched a massive bombing campaign against the people of Gaza. The bombing rampage took place as thousands of Palestinian children were in the streets on their way home from school. Palestinian parents were running frantically in the streets looking for their children as U.S.-provided F-16s and Apache helicopters rained down more than 100 bombs and missiles on Gaza.
The U.S.-backed Israeli Occupation Force destroyed every security station in Gaza. AFP reported: "There was no space left in the morgue and bodies were piled up in the emergency room and in the corridors, as many of the wounded screamed in pain."
Because of the U.S.-backed Israeli blockade and strangulation of the people of Gaza for the past 18 months there is little or no medicine to treat the wounded, electricity for hospitals, or food or clean water for most of the population.
An Israeli military spokesperson said, "The operation is ‘only just beginning’." The Israeli Defense Ministry said in a statement: "The action will continue and will widen as much as is demanded according to the evaluation of the situation by the high command of the army."

Khaled Meshaal, the political leader of Hamas, has called for Palestinians to wage a new intifada against Israel... Long-term preparation, careful gathering of information, secret discussions, operational deception and the misleading of the public - all these stood behind the Israel Defense Forces "Cast Lead" operation against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, which began Saturday morning. The disinformation effort, according to defense officials, took Hamas by surprise and served to significantly increase the number of its casualties in the strike.
Sources in the defense establishment said Defense Minister Ehud Barak instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare for the operation over six months ago, even as Israel was beginning to negotiate a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. According to the sources, Barak maintained that although the lull would allow Hamas to prepare for a showdown with Israel, the Israeli army needed time to prepare, as well. Barak gave orders to carry out a comprehensive intelligence-gathering drive which sought to map out Hamas' security infrastructure, along with that of other militant organizations operating in the Strip...

While Barak was working out the final details with the officers responsible for the operation, Livni went to Cairo to inform Egypt's president, Hosni Mubarak, that Israel had decided to strike at Hamas. In parallel, Israel continued to send out disinformation in announcing it would open the crossings to the Gaza Strip and that Olmert would decide whether to launch the strike following three more deliberations on Sunday - one day after the actual order to launch the operation was issued.
"Hamas evacuated all its headquarter personnel after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday," one defense official said, "but the organization sent its people back in when they heard that everything was put on hold until Sunday."

Faruk al Qaddumi in an interview with al-Jazeera TV described the Israeli onslaught on Gaza as "a Nazi-like aggression." "This is not the first massacre and certainly won’t be the last. We are talking about a state that doesn’t believe in peace and doesn’t believe in negotiations. It is a state that follows a racist Nazi-like policy based on physical extermination and ethnic cleansing. "We say to the United States and Europe...There can be no peace with these barbarians"
Several Arab commentators accused Egypt and the American-backed Palestinian authority of having tacitly encouraged Israel to carry out the bombing campaign against Hamas in the hope this would eventually allow the U.S. Israeli-backed Fatah organization to re-conquer the Gaza Strip.

The events along the southern front which commenced at 11:30 on Saturday morning are the closest thing there is to a war between Israel and Hamas. It is difficult to ascertain (geographically) where and for how long the violence will reach before international intervention forces a halt to the hostilities. However, Israel's opening salvo is not merely another "surgical" operation or pinpoint strike. This is the harshest IDF assault on Gaza since the territory was captured during the Six-Day War in 1967.

Palestinian sources in Gaza report that 40 targets were destroyed in a span of three to five minutes. This was a massive attack much along the lines of what the Americans termed "shock and awe" during their invasion of Iraq in March 2003. Simultaneous, heavy bombardment of a number of targets on which Israel spent months gathering intelligence. The military "target bank" includes dozens of additional targets linked to Hamas, some of which will certainly come under attack in the coming days.

Like the U.S. assault on Iraq and the Israeli response to the abduction of IDF reservists... at the outset of the Second Lebanon War... little to no weight was apparently devoted to the question of harming innocent civilians...

A final decision on the precise timing of the operation was made on Saturday morning during consultations between the prime minister, the defense minister, the IDF chief of staff, and army generals. The cabinet approved the assault in its last meeting on Wednesday. Since that day, the government has waited for the opportunity to strike. Apparently, an intelligence tip indicating that members of the Hamas military wing were convening for a meeting expedited the decision-making process on giving the go-ahead to act. According to initial reports from Gaza, a number of senior Hamas officials were hit, yet the scope of the harm done to the group's leadership has yet to be precisely determined. The Israeli objective is clear: deal as serious a blow as possible to the Hamas chain of command in order to throw its operating capabilities off kilter. Ostensibly, it will not prevent heavy rocket fire on the Negev towns, but it will likely make it more difficult for Hamas to carry out more damaging attacks against Israel

Today, the BBC published their coverage of the terrorist bombing of Gaza under the pretext of "defending Israel" while accusing the victim. Israel's cynicism is palpable as only yesterday they opened Gaza for the first shipment of relief supplies after their deadly 2-month blockade and "after repeated demands from the International community to the Israelis to open the crossings", according Hiyam Noir, Axis of Logic's correspondent in Gaza. Our brothers, sisters and children there waited desperately for the first shipment of "humanitarian supplies, medicine, industrial fuel and cooking oil". Instead they are receiving bombs and bullets in a massive Israeli bombing raid that is killing and maiming hundreds.

In a nutshell the Zionist Nazi invaders killed nearly 200 innocent people (that we know of) in air strikes from rockets fired from F-16 fighter bombers since a "truce" with Hamas had expired. This is far more than an "eye for an eye" scenario with the Israeli response being completely out of proportion to the so-called Hamas agression. Why not use one of the peace loving nuclear bombs stored in Dimona, or the sarin nerve gas under the control of the Israeli armed forces, and get the job done once and for all?!

"Globovision", Washington's puppet TV station in Venezuela presents on these atrocities in a ho-hum fashion as though they were reporting on one of their vulgar fashion shows in East Caracas.
