Arab leaders tell the world that their struggle is not against Jews per se, but against a supposedly expansionist Israel. All they want is a state for the Palestinians; so, for national liberation, not against Jews....the conclusion that the so-called Palestinian national liberation movement is, in fact, not a movement for liberation at all, but an attack force cloaked in the rhetoric of national liberation, a rhetoric chosen as a public relations device, because it has worldwide appeal ...this ‘movement’ was not created to strive for national liberation, but as a weapon against Jews? Let us test this thesis in terms of the current so-called “disengagement” from Gaza and four settlements in Samaria (the West Bank). As everyone has seen on TV, this means the forcible removal of the Jewish population of these areas and the destruction of their homes and workplaces, indeed of everything they built over many years. (As of early September, it will mean the return of the Egyptian army to the Gaza Strip, a development that the Western media has barely reported, but which, in my opinion, is a strategic disaster for Israel and for the cause of peace....

...PLO had to start the intifada partly in order to divert the world (and young Arabs!) from seeing that Israel had pulled off an economic miracle. A miracle which was exactly the opposite of the classic colonial relationship. (As Francisco Gil-White notes, the same thing happened in Kosovo. The media propaganda was that during the 1970s and 1980s Kosovo Albanians were vastly oppressed, but in fact Kosovo was the most pampered part of Serbia.

I was once part of what may be called the Hopeful Left.
The Hopeful Left is a species associated with the Arab-Israeli dispute. It believes that the Arabs fighting Israel are waging a classic struggle for national liberation. All they want is a state of their own in Judea and Samaria, otherwise known as the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. Since Arab violence is viewed as stemming from supposed Israeli suppression of national aspirations, the Hope is that if Israel showers Arabs with concessions, extremists will be isolated; moderates (once meaning Yasser Arafat and now meaning Mahmoud Abbas, otherwise known as Abu Mazen, President of the Palestinian Authority) will be empowered; peace will reign....

The UN Ceasefire and Israel's Policy of Disaster

On 13 August the Israeli cabinet approved the UN plan for a ceasefire and multinational force in Lebanon, sponsored by the US and France. This plan:
* Grants Hezbollah the same legitimacy as Israel (...)
Israel has now answered with air strikes that cannot destroy, but only punish Hezbollah, allowing the anti-Israel media to claim Goliath Israel is bullying heroic David (Hezbollah-Lebanon). And now, Israel is to withdraw without crushing Hezbollah, allowing Hezbollah's worldwide supporters to claim Israel has been defeated.
This approach - concede (the May 2000 withdrawal), punish (the air strikes and insufficient ground force), and retreat (agreement for a cease fire administered by a UN force, with German "training") - facilitates Islamist recruitment. Islamists teach that super-powerful Jews are trying to humiliate Islam (i.e., the evil Jews punish), but that they are also weak and can be defeated (i.e., the Jews concede and retreat). It also plays into Western-style anti-Semitism, which likewise teaches that Jews are monstrous, but cowardly.
This disastrous policy can be corrected in one way: the people of Israel must topple this government, reject the cease-fire, and empower the IDF to destroy Hezbollah. As the May 2000 withdrawal from Lebanon demonstrates, if that job is not done today, it will be a good deal harder tomorrow.

Incitement to murder Jews is routine on Palestine Authority TV and radio. For example, PA-controlled TV has weekly sermons preaching hatred and murder of Jews. As reported by MEMRI, which monitors the Arab media, "Each Khatib (preacher) is a paid employee of the Palestinian Authority (PA). The sermons are broadcast live every Friday at noon from mosques under control of the PA and are shown on PA television."

Targeting Lebanon's Al Manar...Those who demonstrated to Congress the urgent need for a "TV Terrorism" law included the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI). This was confirmed by the office of Congressman Gus Bilirakis and indeed the Congressman himself noted that 'research' provided by MEMRI helped to establish the need for the new legislation.
MEMRI supplied video excepted from Al Manar [ http://almanar.com.lb/newsSite/News.aspx?language=en] cited by the sponsors as 'evidence' of incitement against Americans by the station and its satellite provider because it broadcasts the speeches of Hezbollah leaders on special occasions, as does virtually every other TV news channel in the Middle East that transmit at least portions of the speeches popular across the region. In fact the video...in spliced together speech excerpts...shows no incitement against Americans but rather criticism of Israel and of US support for Israel that can be heard any day of the week in all 50 States in the US.

The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) describes itself as a "free media monitoring service." Based in Washington DC with half a dozen offices set up in countries including China, Tokyo, Germany, England, Italy and Israel, MEMRI was founded in 1998 by Yigal Carmon, a former colonel in Israeli military intelligence and its first three employees were also veterans of Israeli intelligence. Following 9/11 and George W. Bush's executive order 13222 and the unleashing of the War on Terrorism, MEMRI shed much of its earlier pretense of being objective and became stridently anti-Arab and anti-Muslim....
